Club's Greatest Benefactor
The club's Greatest Benefactor and its Hardest Worker in the making of the Bowden Fields, died on Wednesday, August 10. Thirty-one years ago, Brad Beaton gave the Fuller Hamlets the land for two fields and then devoted his evenings and weekends that summer to help three of us take down trees and cut the brush. He was, to me, the Quiet American, saying little, doing a lot.

Comfortable and efficient with equipment, his three big chainsaws and his small bulldozer moved trees, pushed trees leaning the wrong way, rolled out the big pines, and lifted them into the back of his big truck.

Two years ago,in public, he described his joy in passing the fields on a crisp October evening and seeing a hundred small children playing under the lights. Literally thousands of children are privileged to play in 150 games a year on two soccer fields widely acclaimed to be among the best in Massachusetts. 350 a year from Sutton and vicinity average 20 hours of games and scrimmages.

Brad, more than anyone made that a reality on fields that, by right, should be named the Beaton Fields.
