Brian Catalano earns All-NEWMAC Honors in Men's Soccer
WPI Men's Soccer players Brian Catalano and Benjamin Gilde have been named to the All-NEWMAC team on voting recently by the conference coaches. Both players earned second team honors after helping coach Malcolm MacPherson's squad finish 10-5-2 and earn a home match in the NEWMAC Tournament. Catalano (Whitinsville, MA/Northbridge) bounced back from a midseason injury to sport an impressive 10-2-2 record and a microscopic 0.90 Goals Against Average. The senior recorded seven shutouts on the season including key conference blankings of Springfield and MIT. Catalano was selected as NEWMAC Player of the Week on October 30th after posted shutouts against Westfield State and MIT.

Goalkeeper Brian Catalano registered a pair of 1-0 shutout victories last week, allowing his WPI team to earn a first-round home game in the NEWMAC post-season tourney beginning this Wednesday (Nov. 1). The senior from Whitinsville, Massachusetts made five saves in a non-conference victory over Westfield State last Wednesday (Oct. 25). He then made three saves, including one on a penalty kick, in leading the Engineers to a conference win over MIT last Sunday (Oct. 29). Catalano is now 10-1-2 on the season with an excellent 0.89 GAA. His winning percentage of .846 is tops in the conference.
