DATE: October 31, 2005
RICHMOND, VA -- University of Delaware freshman forward Caitlyn Germain has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week for the week ending October 31.
Germain (Auburn, MA/St. Peter-Marian) scored three goals in the Blue Hens’ two matches last week. She scored the second goal in a 2-0 win over UNC Wilmington on Thursday night and then added her first career two-goal game by scoring the first two goals in Delaware’s 3-0 win over Georgia State on Saturday. Both goals against Georgia State were assisted by senior Melissa Kunisky.
Germain, who has started all 18 of Delaware’s games this year, ended the regular season as the Hens’ leading scorer with 14 points. She is also leading the team with five goals and 66 shots and is tied for the team lead with four assists. This is the first time a Delaware player has been named rookie of the week since Alli D’Amico was chosen for the week of September 13, 2004.
The Blue Hens (10-5-3, 7-3-1 CAA) are the No. 3 seed in the CAA Championship Tournament. They will play host to No. 6 seeded William & Mary Tuesday night at 7 p.m at Delaware Mini-Stadium. The winner of the match will take on second-seeded Hofstra Friday night at 8 p.m. at Virginia Commonwealth’s Sports Backer Stadium.
