Blackwatch Alliance U-15 Girls Advance to Super-Y North American Finals Championship Match
The Super-Y season begins with 122 teams from across the United States and Canada, and ends with 12 earning the opportunity to represent their region at the North American Finals, in Tampa, FL. The U-15 Blackwatch Alliance Girls, led by coach, Seth Coulter, have recently returned from their third straight trip to the finals, and this year advanced to the Championship match.
After winning the 2007 New England Region Championship for the second time in three years, the team was looking to improve upon its recent results from the previous trips, where they could not break past 4 points in the group stage.
The first match was set against a talented DeAnza Force team in which the girls let up two goals in the first eight minutes of the game. However, after the disappointing start, the girls rebounded and were able to get a goal back from Heather Dziembowski on a corner kick. Down 2-1 at the half the team regrouped.
An early goal in the beginning minutes of the second half on a tremendous effort from Courtney Wood (FH) tied the game and changed the momentum of the match. In the 72nd minute, a terrific combination between striker, Kelsey Jarosz (FH), and midfielder Hillary Andrews allowed Andrews to slip into the penalty box and send a deftly placed shot to the far post past the outstretched diving DeAnza keeper. It was the game winner and sealed the remarkable comeback, with three precious points to begin the tournament.
Going into the final match of the group stage, the Blackwatch Alliance girls led the group and needed only a win or a tie against Carolina Dynamo to advance to the Semi-Finals. It was a high paced match that saw Blackwatch Alliance leading at the half 1-0 off a rebounded finish by Hillary Andrews. However, quickly into the second half the Carolina team scored the equalizer. They began pounding the wings and earning throw-ins. Carolina had three players that could throw the ball into the middle of the box from the sideline. Carolina began pressing the Alliance team back.
Yet again, the Blackwatch Alliance team found a way to pull ahead. Caitlyn Labonte (FH), received a beautifully led ball from her central defender and streaked down the wing. Caitlyn took on and beat the oncoming Carolina defender, Labonte saw the Carolina keeper out of position and neatly slotted a far post shot into the side netting and gave the Blackwatch team the lead, 2-1.
Carolina continued to pound the wings, sending throw-in after throw-in into the box, and though they were able to manage a late equalizer, the Blackwatch girls managed to hold on for the rest of the game and preserve a tie, winning the group. On to the Semi’s.
For the first time in the clubs history, in either the boys or girls ranks, a Blackwatch RI team advanced to the semi-finals.
The girls were seeded number 2, and they were to meet the number 3 seed, Chicago Magic. In a highly contested semi-final match, both teams created robust scoring opportunities only being denied by the woodwork or a spectacular defensive plays. The match ended deadlocked, 0-0 through regulation.
Super-Y tournament rules differ than USYSF in overtime play. The overtime period is to be played with two ten minute halves, played in their entirety, and only three substitutions allowed by each team.
The Blackwatch girls coach, Seth Coulter, would hold all their subs until the second overtime period where fresher legs would prove the advantage. With three minutes remaining in the second overtime, Hillary Andrews came up large. She received and turned the ball at midfield; Hillary burst past her defender and found herself 1v1 with the Chicago keeper. She was cool and confident; Hillary waited for the keeper to commit, and neatly placed the ball past her into the back of the net.
Three minutes, which seamed an eternity, of strong defending and the Blackwatch Alliance girls, came out victorious. They found themselves in the championship match.
During the championship match, the team fell 2-0 to a poised, well organized and coached Cleveland Internationals side. However, the girls represented themselves, the Blackwatch Alliance, their families, and the New England Region with class and distinction. They played intelligent and creative soccer.
The U 15 Blackwatch Alliance girls team completed their sensational run finishing National Finalists in the Super-Y League 2nd in the Nation.
The team is composed of players from Fuller Hamlets SC, Crusaders United, and Blackwatch Premier, RI.

The Steady U15 BW Rhode Island girls
Team earns third straight trip to SYL Finals
Thursday, August 30
RHODE ISLAND – For the third consecutive season, BW Rhode Island’s ’92 girls have qualified for the Super Y-League North American Finals. In each of the last two trips to Tampa the girls have gone 1-1-1, scoring four goals, allowing four goals and earning four points. This season the girls have improved their New England Division record from 8-3-3 to 10-2-0. If they can avoid the fours this post-season, they will advance to the semifinals of the U15 Super Y-League girls’ tournament.
“We were able to earn our third consecutive berth to the North American Finals by training to be as dynamic and versatile as possible,” said BW Rhode Island Head Coach Seth Coulter. “The team employed many different formations and they have upon occasion utilized three or four formations in a game. The continual adjustments have allowed us to continue to be the top team in the New England Region for such a long duration. It is fun to coach the players in this fashion and enjoyable to see the players show this type of capability and maturity beyond their years.”
The strongest competition the BW Rhode Island girls faced this season came from MPS Boston.
“This season was the tale of two teams for most of our competitors,” said BW Rhode Island Head Coach Seth Coulter. “Seacoast United seemed to be a strong opponent in our first match but fell to us 7-0 in our second. The NH Phantoms began the season very weak and ended with some positive results. A team that is always in the mix, Ottawa, continued to challenge us with closely contested results. The most steadily challenging team this season, they have been for the previous three, was MPS Boston. Two strong second half performances gave us three points in both meetings.”
“In our first meeting of the season, play was primarily in the middle third with limited opportunities for both teams,” continued Coulter. “At the half the game was tied 1-1 on two tremendous finishes – the kind where you tip your hat and move on. During the second half of play, MPS bulked up its midfield and began applying pressure. A counter attack goal by our opportunistic Black Watch side gave us the one goal advantage. The team adjusted and retook the run of play in the middle third. Opening up strong opportunities, we netted a third goal for a 3-1.”
“A week later, the two teams met again,” said Coulter. “We were able to come away with a 2-0 win. Again, it was a feverishly contested match.”

24 Hamlets Players to Play in Super-Y 2006 North American Finals
In just the second year of inception, Fuller Hamlets players continue to make major contributions to the Super-Y Blackwatch Alliance teams. This November, 24 Hamlets players will be making the trip to Tampa, Florida to compete in the 2006 North American Finals.
The U-13’s, U-14’s and U-15’s girls’ teams have finished their Super-Y League seasons with astonishing results. The U-13’s were crowned New England Region Champions; marking the second consecutive year in which a Blackwatch Alliance team has held that title. The team Finished with 19 of a possible 24 points, currently sitting five points clear of MPS Boston Renegades and 8 points clear of sister club, Blackwatch North in Albany, NY.
The U-13’s team started slowly, losing its first game of the season, but quickly gelled into a cohesive unit. They ended the season on a run of four consecutive wins to clinch a berth into the finals. On the defensive end, Samantha Whittier held a 90% save percentage allowing only eleven goals for the season. In front of her was the solid defensive core of Ana Bowden, Rachael Gilles, Jill Goretti, Victoria Havard, Juliet Hooten, Murphy Ronan and Stephanie Seagrave. On the offense end, Krissy Martinson and Bryana Poulin led the team in total points with 27 points (9 goals, 9 assists)scoring nearly 40% of the teams goals.
The U-14’s team, coached by Fuller Hamlets coach Seth Coulter, is only one of the three Super-Y teams returning to Florida for a second successive time in the 2006 North American Finals. After finishing ranked third in North America at the conclusion of the 2005 Finals, the team had high expectations for the 2006 season. The U-14’s had a rough start to the 06 season. The team let two critical games slip away in the final minutes, one to Blackwatch Albany, and the other against NH Phantoms. However, the team bounced back, and through the course of a long summer the team rallied. They completed the season with a run of six undefeated games, scoring 16 goals and allowing only 2. The season was highlighted with important victories over MPS Boston Renegades, two back to back thrashings of Seacoast United 4-0 and 6-0, and two intensely competitive 1-0 victories over Ottawa Fury. Fuller Hamlets players were Erika Annis, Heather Dziembowski, Anna Gallerani, Caitlyn Labonte, Michelle Laramee, Katie Nasuti, and Courtney Wood.
The U-15’s team is finished second in the New England Region winning them a wildcard berth in the North American Finals. Blackwatch Alliance and Seacoast United were tied for points with one game remaining with Seacoast. A point in Seacoast’s final game gave them Regional crown. In the first contest between Seacoast and Blackwatch the stronger Seacoast side soundly defeated the Blackwatch team having just returned from the Ottawa (2-0) and Vermont (6-1) trip by a score of 2-0. However, two days later it was a different story. Learning from the prior game, Martyn Hollands made formation and tactical adjustments, which landed them a 3-0 victory (a swing of five goals) over the stunned Seacoast squad, this gave the team enough breathing room in the tables to apply all the pressure back to Blackwatch, NY to earn points. In the end, Blackwatch, NY succumb to the pressure leaving the Blackwatch Alliance girls 11 points clear of its closest contender and clinching the trip to Tampa. Fuller Hamlets players Colleen Bazinet, Katelyn Boucher, Brianna Docimo, Maura Fox, Erin Kinback, Kristina Milavic, and Hannah Moriarity contributed heavily to the team’s success.
Fuller Hamlets participation and partnership within the Blackwatch Alliance has allowed our players to receive quality summer competition and supplemental training. It has been a positive experience for the players involved. To date the Fuller Hamlets Soccer Club has had two players chosen to attend the Super-Y National ODP Camp. We expect to send more this year. The notification process starts September 13, 2007.
Unlike the Massachusetts ODP system, which is bogged down by an ineffective and political identification system, the Blackwatch Alliance players are recognized must prove that they have the talent and capability in not only an individual technical and tactical capacity, but must also execute those skills in a team play. The Super-Y league has a strong identification process whose mechanics allows players to be seen throughout the season in game play, not only by their own coaches, but also by neutral scouts at each game. The rational behind this is two fold, many players do not participate in the ODP process offered by state associations and do not perform well in open tryout process.
Teams who travel to the North American Super-Y Finals automatically place themselves in the upper echelon of the soccer community. They are placed in the Top 12 teams in North America (the United States and Canada) have even greater level of National exposure that other players, who simply do not have the opportunity to achieve.
The Fuller Hamlets Soccer Club wishes the Best of luck to all
of the players representing the Fuller Hamlet family! The club
and all those associated with the club are truly proud and grateful
for the accomplishments you have bestowed on the club.

The Fuller Hamlets affiliation with Black Watch Alliance is not going unnoticed. A recent article in Soccer New England details how Black Watch Alliance emerged as one of the newest teams in the Super-Y League. Unlike other Super-Y clubs, Black Watch Alliance encourages participation in the Massachusetts Premier League (MAPLE) and the Super-Y League. This year Fuller Hamlets players from both our boys and girls sides are playing in the Black Watch Alliance.
Super Y League Alliance is formed!
Friday 18th February (Providence, RI) – Black Watch Rhode Island, Nova SC, Fuller Hamlets and Crusaders United SC is pleased to announce that they have officially formed Black Watch Alliance, which is a girls Super Y League teams beginning in April 2005. For the first time, Rhode Island and Southern MA will have several top-level youth soccer clubs working together to provide the best opportunities available to the most deserving players.
Black Watch Alliance will not take the place of the regular premier portion of the Nova, Hamlets or Crusaders United programs. Instead, this is an opportunity for their players to seek out additional playing and player identification opportunities. In order to make this the best experience possible for everyone involved (players, coaches & clubs), Black Watch Alliance will work together to ensure that there are no conflicts with the players’ current club schedule and to keep the cost as affordable as possible; these have been the biggest stumbling blocks for players wanting to participate in the Super Y League in the past.
Nova SC, Fuller Hamlets and Crusaders United SC have been at the forefront of girl’s development in New England for many years. Their professionalism, integrity and passion for the game are second to none. “The experience that Rick Skelly (Nova), Tim Dunn (Crusaders United), and Marc Bowden (Hamlets) bring to the table is impressive on its own, but then you add their outstanding coaching staff and the pool of quality players and this relationship quickly became a no-brainer - last year alone, they combined for 4 MA girls state titles and one (1) runner-up. I am very excited to work with these clubs, and I am confident that nobody will be able to match what Black Watch Alliance has to offer.” stated Scott Cannon, Director of Coaching Black Watch Premier - Rhode Island.
