U12 Girls Fuller Hamlets vs. Black Magic

In a well fought battle today on Bowden #1 the Hamlet u12girls once again defeat Black Magic with a score of 2-1. The first goal for the Hamlets came in the first half when Eve struck a solid ball in towards the goalie area. Lexie came in fast for the ball, then backed away when she thought the goalie might take the ball. After seeing the goalie was not quite on the ball Lexie stepped in to free it and knock it home for the goal. Nice assist by Eve and nice finish by Lexie. The second half was a 1-1 tie with Metro attacking early. After a missed kick by the Hamlets the Black Magic knocked the ball to the far post to a wide open player who very nicely slotted the ball into the back of the net. The Hamlets second goal came from a nice assist from Ciara who slotted the ball in front to Kristen, who was on her game Today. Kristen made a few nice moves to create some space and then crushed the ball into the back of the net. Both Kristen and Ciara worked very well together throughout the entire game with Ciara available for back passes and give and goes. Both girls also had nice shots to goal. The Hamlets had more than 12 shots on goal or towards goal while Metro had 5. We had 6 good corner kicks but were unable to capitalize.

The biggest area of improvement needed from Today's game came defensively. This is not directed solely at our defense. It is directed to all players. We need to make improvements in our game when the other team was in possession. We allowed too much space and did not challenge well. We left several players alone in our goalie area and did not attack the person with the ball. The end result was that we allowed a few good opportunities for the opponents to shoot on our goal. We need to close them down and take away the easy and open shots on our goal. Kendra did a nice job of containing most of the play and making the saves when she could.

The area where improvement was noted was in communication and heads up playing. We talked more, gave better supporting information, and looked for the open players. Overall, it was expected to be a tough game, and it was. We expected to win, and we did. Great job by all. We still have a few players who will need to continue to properly ice and rest their injuries. Going into the game Today we had Natalia, Maddie N. and Megan with injuries on the mend. Coming out of the game we added Kristen who was the unfortunate recipient of a hard shot soccer ball to the nose. Kristen, we all hope you are feeling better tonight and were sorry to see you get hurt.
